2021 World Refugee Day theme: Together through sport

Each year on June 20, World Refugee Day helps to focus on the plight of those fleeing conflict or persecution. This year, the United Nations organized a variety of events around the globe in support of refugees around three main themes. One of them was dedicated to sport (“Together through sport”) and its power to bring people together and create a sense of hope.

UNODC launches new tools to prevent violent extremism through sport

Because of surge in extremist ideology and radicalization in Central Asia, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime supports Governments by developing technical guidance materials and organizing workshop in Central Asian countries. It aims to underline the importance of prevention and the effective use of sport as a tool in this context.

UNODC forges new partnerships in Peru to advance youth crime prevention through sport, despite the pandemic

To contribute to the global effort required to continue supporting and engaging youth during the COVID-19 era, UNODC, through new partnerships with key actors in the sports and youth areas in Peru, has been strengthening the capacity of the sport sector and local authorities to deliver sports and community-based interventions as soon as the pandemic allows. Such interventions will help to address the increased vulnerabilities of youth and provide opportunities for positive development and social interaction.
